Narciso Rodriguez for her Fleur Musc

Narciso Rodriguez for her Fleur Musc

A perfume post on a monday instead of friday??? Well, after an unplanned week of silence I guess it’s time to shake things up.

This year Narciso Rodriguez released a new flanker for the pillar fragrance “for her”. It’s called “for her Fleur Musc” EdP and comes in a strong rosy pink instead of the light pink/black combo of “for her”. Perfumers are Calice Becker and Sonia Constant.

Now, you should know that I am a HUGE fan of “for her” I love the strong musc and the abstract woods and the soft creaminess and it’s just really good, okay. Fleur Musc is basically “for her”, but tuned WAY down with rose slapped in front. If that sounds like something you’d like, then here’s your chance. For me personally, because I like “for her so” much and I am also not a rose lover, this is a miss.

Narciso Rodriguez for her EdT

Narciso Rodriguez for her EdT

Narciso Rodriguez has many great perfumes (well, if you like musk, that is) but this one here is still my favorite: for her EdT, released 2003. Perfumers are Christine Nagel and Francis Kurkdjian.

The biggest problem with Narciso Rodriguez is their perfume naming. It’s like a kid naming cats ‘Kitty 1, Kitty 2 and Kitty-Kat’. Which one’s which? Well the one I’m talking about here is the EdT of ‘for her’, pink outer packaging, black bottle.

For me the musk is the strongest note. Ther are flower notes too, but those come out sometimes more, sometimes less. Maybe it has to do with how warm it is. ‘for her’ is just a cozy wrap dress to me. It consists mostly of base notes like musk, amber, a tiny bit of vanilla, patchouli, you know just the regular base stuff with musk amped up to the max and everyone else only a soft whisper. Sometimes the flowers (orange blossom, osmanthus) are allowed to dance, but often they disappear quickly. The perfume as a whole doesn’t change much (since it’s already so base-heavy). On me it lasts an average of five hours.

‘for her’ is a best seller for good reasons. Many try to copy it but none come that close to perfection. You’ve probably smelled it before but if you haven’t I suggest trying it. If you don’t smell it much you could be partially anosmic to musk btw. For those who can smell it the perfume is quite intense.

No perfume review today as I am suffering a head cold and can’t smell properly. Instead I decided I’d do a list of amazing perfumes that I would like to own one day.

XD Some of these I own by now (Black Orchid, Shalimar PI) others I’m somehow not that interested anymore (Baby Doll, Replica Jazz Club, La Panthere Legere). My current wish list is too short to warrant its own post, so let me put it here: Chanel Coco, Dior Poison, Guerlain Shalimar. End of story. XD

Best Of 2014: New Releases

Best Of 2014: New Releases

Welcome to my Best Of 2014 Pt 1.

Last year my best of was a little disjointed, so this year I decided to make two lists, one for products that came out this year, and one for products I just happened to like a lot this year.

Of course I am limited in my review of new releases to things I actually got into my hands this year, so I’m probably missing a lot of real cool stuff. Can’t be helped.

So, in no particular order, products released in 2014 that I liked:

Collection Design: MAC Alluring Aquatic

The pretty turquoise, the fake waterdrops! I’m sad I didn’t buy more just to look at!

Perfume: Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez

IMG_2303

Very sexy if you like wood and musk, which I do.

Lipstick range: matte: YSL the mats for high end, Maybelline Color Drama for drugstore; for creamy lipsticks: Estee Lauder color envy

New eye shadows: this was really hard, there were so many new eyeshadow ranges this year. I think for me YSL won with their new quints and I’ll give a honorable mention to Max Factor (which were only recently released and therefore not properly tested yet)

Overall Collection: Dior Summer: I think it had many great items and I wish I’d picked up more.

IMG_2004

Nailpolish Collection: OPI Nordic; I think it had the nicest mix of colors

IMG_2271

Nailpolish: Dior Bar: amazing quality and proper black, not almost black

IMG_2337

Skincare: Garnier Micellar Cleanser; a lot cheaper than high end and better, too.

IMG_2184

Blush: MAC Casual Color Young at Heart

IMG_1899

Eyeliner: Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Or Blanc:
nice and subtle on the waterline, and a nice ice queen color on the lid/corner

And this concludes my totally subjective list of interesting stuff released in 2014. Which were your personal highlights this year?

Recently smelled: Guerlain L’Homme Ideal and Narciso Rodriguez Narciso

I received some very tiny samples in the mail, and decided they get a joint review.

First off the new male fragrance by Guerlain, L’Homme Ideal EdT. The advertising tells us that, nope, the perfect man doesn’t exist, but his perfume does.

At first dab, I wasn’t all that impressed. It just had this regular, sorta fresh and slighly sharp opening. I was like, whatever, and went on with my day. An hour or half in, I suddenly thought, yep, that’s a Guerlain. It seemed so familiar. Reading up on the official notes, it must be the “amaretto” heart, based on tonka bean and almond. So after a while, this turns into a softly sweet scent, is what I’m trying to say. The longer I wore it, the more I liked it. The review over at Bois de Jasmin calls it the Petite Robe Noir for the man. And I agree. So is it the ideal man fragrance? If the lady you want to impress calls La Petite Robe Noir her favorite perfume, probably.

Personally, I think I’d rather keep it on myself. 😉 That or Dior Homme. If you like sweet scents, but find the female offerings way too cloying, try those two.

I almost forgot: lasting power is pretty good.

List of ingredients, click to enlarge. L’Homme Ideal was created by Thierry Wasser.

The other perfume that fluttered into my house was Narciso EdP by Narciso Rodriguez:

IMG_2302

I don’t know how I can begin to describe this one. This is the fragrance Cara Delevigne will wear when getting gay married to lady of her choice. (Disclaimer: nobody’s getting gay married to Cara Delevigne. SO FAR.) What I mean is, this is incredibly sexy to me and at the same time makes me feel like I can rule the world. Yet I find it clean and elegant, not raunchy. What does it smell like? According to official notes list, rose, gardenia, vetiver, cedar and musk. I am not a big fan of rose, but I couldn’t really make it out here. Unofficial lists also include amber.

I think it’s not that dissimilar to L’Homme up there (notes are different, but the development is similar).

Longevity of Narciso is pretty good, lasts all day on my wrist.

There was no ingredients list on Narciso, just the promo image. Might be the only time that I think promo image and scent match.

In a nutshell: I wish those samples had been bigger.

Fall Favorites

Fall Favorites

I was so eager for summer that I did my summer favorites post in spring. I meant to do the fall favorites at the beginning of september, but time flies. I was so eager for summer this year and then summer turned out to be two weeks of warmth and a whole lot of rain for the rest of the time. 😦 It feels like we’ve already had autumn since August. Maybe that’s why I am so very into the current Fall Collections…

Anyway here are my favorites for the season, not these products in particular, but the type they represent:

IMG_2262

On top, an older YSL lipstick (you can tell by how the logo is divided), a blush by s-he, a Givenchy eye shadow, perfume by Narciso Rodriguez, a Maybelline lip pencil, a lip balm by Rodial, the body shop bronzer and Essie nail polish.

IMG_2256

With the products open.

I put a lip balm in the selection because right when the temperatures sink I suddenly need a lot more balm for my lips. Rodial is what I’m currently using because it came in a beauty box, but any brand will do.

For nail polish I chose brown because almost every brand put brown in their fall collections. It’s this year’s trend color. I chose Essie Partner in Crime, but if you’ve seen my haul post you’ll know that by now I also own OPI How Great is your Dane? Brown nail polish is perfect because it’s warm and cozy and not too loud. Make sure it doesn’t clash with your skin tone before buying, though.

For perfume I chose Narciso Rodriguez for her EdT (pink packaging, black bottle), mostly because I was thinking of a day with crisp cold air, colored laves, fog at first but then the sun comes out. For really terrible weather I’d prefer something sweeter. for her is a clean chypre with lots of musk. To me it smells very buisness-like. I’m also cheating a little because for her is an all year round scent to me. I just felt like including it here.

I put the body shop bronzer in because it helps transition from summer bronze to no bronze. I have the lightest color 01 of four, but all of them are on the pale side of bronzer. If you can never find a good bronzer because you are so pale, do take a look at these. Those who are darker can probably use them all over. I am NC 15 in MAC and this bronzer barely shows up on me, so I mostly use it for contouring. Should I ever repurchase I’d take a darker shade.

For lips I chose my beloved YSL 42 Rose Lyrique and as alternative the new Maybelline Color Drama pencil in 310 Berry Much. (Review upcoming) I don’t stick to berry tones only, but I think they’re quite trendy this season. I mostly coordinate makeup with my clothes, so when it’s warm there’ll be a lot of coral and when it’s cold a lot more plum. I don’t even choose my clothes that way, it’s simply what’s being sold…

For eyes I put in the Givenchy eye shadow le prisme mono in 12 Casual Khaki. This is a stand in for all my bronzey-khaki items. I think the color goes well with plum and I love the way it looks. Givenchy’s le prisme mono are interesting eyeshadows because while it’s a single color, the quadrants differ in level of shimmer. There’s a matte part, two different shimmers and a glittery part. I think that’s pretty cool because you can reach for whatever suits you best and you can even make a whole look out of this alone. However I must admit I cannot tell the shimmery ones apart. Only the matte and the glittery are really distinctive to me. Usually I sweep all of them together and use the matte on its own for lining my lower lashes.

And last but not least, a powder blush by s-he. (That’s a cheap brand available at DM.) This is technically also cheating because it’s certainly a year-round item but I chose it because the color is so universal, it goes with everything. You can see I made a visible dent in the pan. The color is a dusty rose pink without shimmer. The picture pulls a little blue, it’s more neutral than that. Universally flattering, goes with everything. If you have only one blush, it should be like this. (I have a lot more blushes but I keep coming back to this one.)

These are my favorites for fall.

Thank you for reading. 🙂 What are your picks for the season?
