Dior Diorshow Brow Chalk Blonde

Dior Diorshow Brow Chalk Blonde

Last year Dior came out with these brow chalks.

This is the Diorshow Brow Chalk in 001 Blonde, presumably the lightest color available. It’s a brow pencil, but with a thick side.

Swatch, once with the whole chalk and once with the edge. The color looks almost green tinted here, but don’t worry, when it’s in the brow it somehow turns more yellow/ochre. Honestly, why is it that no matter how cool a color looks on the skin, it turns red in the brow? However, this one isn’t too bad. In fact it’s a pretty good brow color. It’s lighter than my real brow hair and turns them thicker in a soft way. It looks very good and subtle and I have immediately declared this to be my everyday brow product after trying it out the first time.

My real hair color is an ashy blonde, very cool, almost grey. Usually I go for brow colors that are darker than this one here. But it was a present and it turned out so well. I think this stick would actually work for most blondes. Unless the goal is to darken your brows, of course.

This brow chalk is softer than my usual pencils. That means it needs only a very light hand to apply. I fear that also means that it will be used up quickly, but we’ll see that when I’m done with it.

For the swatch I used the edge as well, but in real life I only apply with the broad side (the edge wore off very fast, as well). It is so easy and quick to apply this way, but of course you’re ending up with a full stripe of color. You can’t draw tiny hairs as you could with a very thin, hard pencil. You can just apply very lightly and then blend a bit if necessary. If you make a mistake it can be rubbed off easily. I blend/remove with my finger; this is also recommended on the packaging.

I think this is best for people who have brow hairs though, then you can just wipe it over your brow hair and be done. People who shave their brows or who have very thin brows might have a problem with the broadness of this chalk. It’s not that precise and very soft.

The product claims to be waterproof. I took a shower with it and it was still on afterwards, so water alone doesn’t affect it. However, I do think it vanishes throughout the day. I’m not entirely sure how long it lasts, maybe six hours, maybe more. But when I wash my makeup off there’s not that much visible difference, indicating that there wasn’t much makeup left.

Pros: super easy to use

Cons: possibly not that long lasting, expensive

Certainly worth a try if you ususally shop luxury makeup.

Here’s my last empties of the year 2016:

img_4533

Another Shiseido cream, this time it’s called the Bio-Performance Glow Revival Serum. Now, I liked this one much better than the Ultimmune serum. It’s called a serum, but texture-wise it was pretty much a cream so I used it as such (meaning I didn’t put anything on top). Smell and texture of this remind me of some Kanebo Sensai products I had before, a very cashemere-y smell. The cream contains a little bit of shimmer but it was bearely visible on the face.

It is supposed to help with unevenness, redness and pores. I’m not sure it actually did anything, though. My skin didn’t get worse either, at least.

img_4534

Teeny tiny list of ingredients. Alcohol is seventh on the list. There are irritating fragrance components in it. The real good stuff like Camellia sinensis leaf are at the very bottom. Would not buy a full size.

img_4539

Then I used up my eye makeup remover by Balea. It was so-so. The Body Shop one I had before removed my makeup better. However, this one isn’t like bad or something. Will not repurchase for now, but am not ruling it out either.

Also used up: My brow wax pencil by Sumita. It got too short to hold. What I don’t like is that it has to be constantly sharpened, like I use the same eyebrow stuff every day and while the pencil as a whole has lasted for the better part of a year I had to sharpen it all the time. I really prefer twist up pencils and such for brows. Apart from that it was super easy to apply though. Brow wax or brow gel is a matter of taste. I found that I could feel the wax, while I never feel the gel, but I grew used to it. Wax doesn’t set, so if you mess up your brow, you simply push it back into form and it will hold again. I find it doesn’t last as long as gel, though. Right now I am using up another product and I will not repurchase this pencil because of the sharpening problem.

Last product used up last year: Vichy Neovadiol Magistral Elixir. What a name. It’s actually a face oil, but that would have been too easy for a name? This is not a cleansing oil, it’s the kind you leave on. Now, putting oil on your face when you used to be a teen with acne and an oily T-Zone? Weird feeling. When I was a teen everyone would say, no oil, never. And you would lots of alcohol and other irritating stuff and your skin would always be wayyy too dry from all the stuff. Those were the days.

So I used this oil as a last step in my skin care when winter hit and it started to get cold and my skin got dry. And it did help keep my skin plump and whole. It was still weird to put on. I mean the majority of it sank in, yes, but some oil stayed for a while. This was a night time only product for me. It was interesting to test, but I didn’t really like it. I prefer creams. So I would not use a full size, but I do want to point out it was good for dry skin.

No list of ingredients, but they were okay. No irritants as far as I could tell.

And that’s it. I haven’t yet used anything up in 2017 so there may or may not be a short post in February. I have a lot of shower gels and such almost used up, so I may even be allowed to buy some this year. 2016 I had a body product no buy. I actually managed to gain some empty space – which I immediately covered, not with shower gels, but with perfume bottles. Sigh.

All Used Up April 2016

All Used Up April 2016

Ah, sorry for the little hiatus there. My schedule keeps being upset and I can’t create when I don’t have a few hours of spare time in one go. 😦 Anyway, here is what I used up the last month, quite a few items:

batiste blonde

Batiste Dry Shampoo light&blonde: this dry shampoo is colored. It comes out a muddy yellow. it totally works for my hair, but I’m not sure if it would work for a platinum blonde. You might end up with yellow patches! It does leave the scalp yellow, which is a bit annoying. The scent is vanilla, which is okay, but I’d highly prefer for hair products in general to be a lot less scented. They often compete with my perfume. But in general this is a good dry shampoo. It also creates volume, something I despereately need. The finish is duller than other dry shampoos might leave you, but I don’t care. Already repurchased.

Clarins Daily Energizer Cleansing Gel: This is a case of not used up. I finally admitted to myself that foaming cleansers are really irritating for my skin. This particular product has a really nice smell, just like the matching cream, which I used up and reviewed before. But ultimately it’s not worth it. If you are the sort of person to use foaming cleaners you can find similar ones for less money.

IMG_3600

This is my second empty MAC Mineralize Compact Foundation. It works really well for me. I have not repurchased yet, but I might. I just wish they offered a lighter color than NC15. I think I am really NC13 now.

IMG_3648

Another handcream. I may be on a mission to try all the Balea ones… This is the Totes Meer handcream (dead sea salt). The texture is light and absorbs easily. The scent is light and unoffensive, a bit salty. Despite the light texture, it really helped keeping my skin moisturized. I have now purchased other hand creams that need to be used up, but I would totally repurchase this one. I just wish it came with SPF!

IMG_3659

Absolute Douglas Endless lashes mini mascara: I will spare you the review because not only does this mascara not exist anymore, the whole brand has been discontinued at the end of 2015. I just took a pic of my fingers with the brush, because the brush is really super big. I kept on stabbing myself in the eye, or applying mascara to my brows on accident. 😐

IMG_3663

MAC brow pencil Lingering: the quality is absolutely top notch. The color is brown, something that works for many people. But I am naturally very ashy and found this a tad too red to repurchase this particular color.

IMG_3694

La Roche Posay Rosaliac UV Legere: This is a cream with niacinamide (also written as nicotinamide, this is a derivate of vitamin B3). It has SPF 15, so first I used it as a day cream. It is tinted green, but too little to actually have effect, it’s just a gimmick. Despite being the legere version (there’s a riche one also) I found this cream very thick. And sadly, it left me looking incredibly greasy. It’s not that I was greasy (aka full of my own sebum) but this cream is just so shiny in not a god way. It was impossible to apply makeup on top. So I started using this as a night cream. And you know, in the long term it really worked. Short term I’d often get red in the face when I applied it. But long term, my acne and rosacea symptoms got so much less. My skin is calmer and better overall. But, because I really don’t need a greasy night cream with SPF I will not repurchase. Instead I am looking for creams with similar ingredients. Sadly I had not taken a pic of them before I threw the packaging away, so I can’t show them to you. Sorry. Basically I am looking for something with niacinamide, no alcohol, no perfume.

IMG_3698

Then I used up a sample of YSL Paris EdT. This is originally from the 80s and you can tell. I has a lot of notes, but I am overwhelmed by the powdery rose. Very rosey, very powdery. It was nice to test, but I’m not going to miss it.

IMG_3700

Last item! I also used up the Kiko kiss balm. This is very pigmented, comparable to a sheer lipstick. The balm had a lot of slick, it glides on very quickly. It made my lips feel good and look lovely. I am not sure if it had any long term benefits. It does come with SPF 15, though, which is good. I would recommend it for those who don’t want to put on lipstick and are looking for a colored balm instead. It’s too slick and too pigmented to use underneath lipstick even if you wiped most of it off again.

Wow, this was a mega post. In case anyone besides me finished reading all that, you deserve a cookie. 🙂

Maybelline Brow Satin

Maybelline Brow Satin

My current brow pencil feels like it may run out so I snatched up the new Maybelline brow pencils at the last Maybelline promo deal.

They are called Brow Satin and they are double ended pencils. One end looks like this:

Maybelline Brow Pencils

This is the pencil end. The cap is black and a pull off one.

Maybelline brow

The other end is in the chosen color and with a screw off cap. These are sponges with powder on. I think the powder is kept in the cap. I’m not entirely sure and luckily it has not spilled out even though I already dropped the cap.

I picked up both Medium Brown (top) and Dark Brown (bottom).

Maybelline brow swatches

And these are the swatches. In the middle the pencils and above and unerneath the powder of the matching color.

The pencil end is for a more precise look, the powders are soft and a little less directional. Both colors are taupey and cool. I detected no redness wearing these in my brows. Usually I have this problem a lot. My current brow pencil is Lingering by MAC, but ever since I went from being reddish to blonde I felt that Lingering had too much red undertone.

Colorwise, both Medium Brown and Dark Brown work for me. Medium Brown gives me a great normal, everyday look, while Dark Brown gives me Cara Delevigne brows. Medium Brown should work for many people.

The pencil ends are great. They give off just the right amount of color and apply easily. After the very first application they did not tug or feel scratchy. (The very first time they felt a little harsh – as you can see they are cut off at a 90 degree angle instead of rounded! But that wore down easily.) I don’t like that the packaging is so thick. You have to be careful of how you hold the pencil. The packaging of high end pencils is much sleeker.

I’m not entirely convinced by the powder end. At first you get too much off the sponge and it has to be brushed around, then there’s not enough powder on for an entire brow (my brows are thick). Usually I stick with the pencil unless I want to soften the look.

Overall I absolutley love the color and the pencil part. I will use up my MAC pencil but after that I will stick with these. Packaging and product aren’t perfect, but workable and finding a good color is so hard so I’m glad I found these completely on accident.

Spring Makeup Haul

Spring Makeup Haul

I was super into easter colors lately and it sort of shows in my new purchases?

DSC01497

Maybe not so much with the packaging, but…

Spring Haul 2016

Getting there…

DSC01503

Spring! 😀

Okay, so what are the items?

On top you can see two brow products by Maybelline: the BrowSatin in medium brown and dark brown. They are double ended, one side a thin pencil, the other a sponge with powder.

On the upper left, a Clinique Chubby Stick Baby Tint: 01 Poppin’ Poppy. On the upper right: Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Magnetic Magenta.

The mascara duo is from Essence: the thinner wand is the Forbidden Volume False Lash Mascara Topcoat, the thicker wand is the Forbidden Volume Mascara Rebel. There’s another duo without the “rebel” in the name, but I thought I might as well go all out. I was actually about to buy the Princess Mascara, but the duo won for one single reason: they came packaged in plastic (shown in top pic). I have trouble buying normal drugstore stuff if it isn’t sealed because I’ve seen too many people use stuff (not the testers) and putting it back in the aisle. And since you can’t tell with mascara if it has been opened, I’m sticking to high end and those drugstore mascaras that come sealed.

The lower lipstick is Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte in Stronger, one of the most interesting colors in their whole lineup!

And lastly, the eyeshadow duo is Nars Fashion Rebel. I am well aware that a matte yellow will not have the best quality, but I just don’t care. I’m packing this stuff on! Spring! (Actually this is a past summer release, but it just screams spring to me right now.)

And this concludes my Spring haul. This is sort of a pre-woman day haul, I got lots of good discounts. This Thursday, for everyone who lives in and near Austria, don’t forget it’s Woman Day. 20% off on shoes, clothes, cosmetics. In my experience this week it will pay off to simply ask for a discount, even if it is not thursday and even if the shop is not officially on the list.

MAC Eye Brows Lingering

MAC Eye Brows Lingering

When I was checking out the MAC Wash & Dry brow stuff, the MACisto gave me the brow pencil in Lingering instead. Lingering isn’t new and not limited either.

Brow Pencil Lingering

This is a small twist up pencil thingy. I’m sorry for the blurriness; I could not for the life of me get a proper picture. 😦 While I am usually a fan of twist up pencils I have to say this one will not twist down again, which is pretty annoying! Especially if you want to take pics. The packaging tells you that the mine can also easily break if you get out too much.

Lingering Swatch

Weird little swatch. Looks pretty taupe here, which is also what it was sold to me as, but you know everything always gains more redness when applied into the brows (a phenomenon that should be scientifically explored if you ask me. Or was it aliens?). So here it looks taupe and on my brows I would pretty much call it brown.

I’m not entirely convinced on Lingering. It looks okay, but I also haven’t gotten the hang of proper application yet. Like in the swatch up there, sometimes I press too hard and it looks crumbly. It doesn’t crumble, though, and it lasts very well. Maybe I’m just more of a gel and powder sort of person.

Take a look at Lingering if: the color you want can be described as “brown”. If you want ashy and taupe, look elsewhere.
