All Used Up March & April 2017

All Used Up March & April 2017

Alright, time for another trash post. I have many items almost used up, but only a few I managed to actually empty and throw away lately and those are:

Balea Handcreme Buttermilk & Lemon: My current fav hand cream. Already repurchased. Must be on my fourth bottle now (If I always repurchase the same thing I don’t always put it in those posts because boring).

Jean & Len Shampoo für seidiges Haar: I tried it on a whim and really liked it. It did actually make my hair silky and my scalp was not itchy and dry (something I often have a problem with). However when I went back to repurchase it I couldn’t find it anymore. The whole product line was repackaged and looked different. For now I have some other shampoos to use up but I do plan on going back and finding this one again.

List of ingredients for shampoo.

Rituals Sakura Body Lotion: I had more than one of these. I like the smell and the whipped cream texture is fun to touch. However it does not really do a whole lot for the skin. No moisture. Looking at the list of ingredients (too small to photograph, sorry) it is very back-heavy, meaning it’s mostly silicone and all the advertised stuff like rice etc is listed after Phenoxyethanol (meaning there’s less than one percent in it). So, nice sample, would not buy full size.

s.Oliver Outstanding. Review here. I have nothing to add. Used up as a room spray at work.

Last two items: The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit shower gel: one of my favorite Body Shop scents. Yum. Currently on a shower gel bying ban (which I broke to buy those cursed unicorn shower gels – see my instagram). Should I one day have used up all my backlog I might get this one again.

And a body lotion: Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs. The lotion was actually not half bad, considering it’s mostly there to enhance the perfume. The scent is okay, nothing I would buy for myself, but a nice fresh floral.

And that concludes my empties post for the last two months. I have quite a few things almost used up I wonder how many more weeks they’ll last…

All Used Up November 2016

All Used Up November 2016

This month went by so quickly! Here we have another list of my empties:

img_4428

Starting on the right this time, this the Douglas Beauty System Multi-Talented Serum. This came to me without a list of ingredients so I can’t tell you what exactly makes it so multi-talented. It is a light liquid with golden shimmer. The shimmer was very subtle, though and did not emphasize pores. My skin looked really good while using this, small pores and no blemishes, if a bit on the dry side.

Next is the Body Shop Shower Gel Cranberry Joy. This is from a past winter collection and I sort of forgot about it until recently when I decided to finally finish it. The gel was bright cherry red and the smell was a sweet, fake smelling cranberry. It was okay but I’m not super sad it was limited or something. I am still on shower gel & body lotion no buy, so I wouldn’t repurchase it even if it was still available.

I am however never on a handcream no buy, as I use up a tube per month. This one here is Balea Kamille Hand & Nagelbalsam. It does smell of chamomille, but not strongly. The balm is very balmy and refuses to sink in quickly. Operating a touch screen after you put this on? Impossible. So while the cream was actually pretty good for my hands,  I will not repurchase this one (at least until the next reformulation).

img_4455

Then I used up the Lee Stafford Dry Shampoo Original. This must be my third bottle. I used to use these interchangably with the Batiste ones, but somehow this bottle has not worked well for me at all. I don’t know if I got a dud or if it was reformulated, but I will stick with Batiste now.

img_4457

Shiseido Ultimmune: This is a very thin serum. It comes out white and dries up so quickly, it sometimes dries on your finger before you put it on. This is clearly designed for people who hate heavy textures. Sadly I have to say this did not work for me at all. I started with a clear face (after I used up the Serum shown above) and my skin got gradually worse. It didn’t happen over night, but I’d look worse every few days. First I got small pimples, then darker pores and last I got some real huge pimples. This could be a coincidence, yes, but as I also hated the texture I am not willing to try again.

img_4465

And last item, another face cream, Vichy Aqualia Thermal rich cream. In november, the weather started to get really cold and my skin dry. This cream is rich and has no scent. It felt good to use this in the evenings as last step. I wouldn’t have used this underneath makeup, though.

img_4468

Ingredients.

That’s it! Next empties post will be in the new year already!!!

The Body Shop Color Crush Almond Kiss

The Body Shop Color Crush Almond Kiss

img_4231

This is my first nailpolish from the Body Shop. It’s 730 Almond Kiss, a beige nude with a little bit of golden shimmer. The shimmer is more visible in the bottle than on the nail but it is visible if you look closely. The color is pretty close to my skin color (NC15), so it’s a really subtle color.

In this pic I am wearing two coats and no top coat. It is nice and shiny and easy to apply, but it doesn’t get opaque. It lasted well, almost four days without chipping.

All Used Up July 2016

All Used Up July 2016

While I didn’t blog a lot in July, I did manage to use up quite a few products:

IMG_4102

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Future Caplet Serum: As you can see, there are still capsules left in the bottom, but they were impossible to get out. The serum is colorless with white balls floating in it. When you pump them out, they combine into a shimmery white substance. There is a lot of mica in it and it is very visible in the face. Sadly, the mica has exactly the right size to settle in pores and enhance them.

From what I can tell, this serum is very moisturizing and enhances the effect of other products layered on top. So I used this and then put my BHA serum on top. I didn’t use this serum on its own. It didn’t have any adverse effects in my face, but I can’t say if it had any positive effects either. Due to the glitter I wouldn’t buy a full size. I prefer my shimmer to come in form of highlighters, where I can control where they go.

List of ingredients. Click pic to enlarge.

IMG_4009

Next up: Douglas Beauty System Sea Thalasso Shower Gel. I used to have a matching body lotion, but ran out much sooner. Despite the hints of Sea Thalasso in the name, this does not smell salty or anything. It smells heavenly of neroli. I love it, real good scent. I don’t even know if this is still being sold though. It often takes me so long to use things up because I switch around.

IMG_4008

List of ingredients.

IMG_4003

Biotherm Aquasource Cream: I’m pretty sure I had this before. It’s just a rich cream wth the nice fresh smell that Biotherm often uses. I don’t have the packaging with the ingredients anymore, sorry. The cream is nice, but nothing special.

IMG_3989

La Roche Posay Anthelios AC SPF 30: a mattifying sun protection for the face. Alcohol is fairly high in the list, so I would not buy a full size for myself. When I use alcohol on my skin and then go into the sun I get big angry red spots. The cream proteced well from sun rays, though. At least I didn’t get sunburn. The cream left a visible white cast on me.

IMG_3880

Douglas Naturals face cream day with argan oil: You can tell it’s a “natural” cream by the smell: typical essential oils smell. Nasty if you ask me. The cream was bad, it simply didn’t want to sink in or distribute evenly. I think I also broke out from it (it’s hard to say exactly, but I had been acne free for a long time until that point). Avoid, avoid!

IMG_3912

The Body Shop Honeymania lip balm: This is a huge pot of lip balm and I gotta admit, it went bad before I could use it up, so it had to go. Back when it was still good, it had a lovely smell of fake honey and a waxy texture that protected lips nicely.

IMG_3906

Lush Helping Hands: a hand cream with light texture that sunk it quickly – no waiting time until you can use your smart phone again. 🙂 For my dry hands it works in summer, but in winter I need something richer. I didn’t love the smell, but it wasn’t bad either.

IMG_3884

Two perfume samples: Simply Jil Sander – a favorite of mine, review here.

And Lolita Lempicka Eau de Parfum: Sadly there are many Lempickas with similar names. I think this is the usual one, with the light purple bottle. I like it quite a bit. It smelled of cherry candy and liquorice. It smelled a bit dusty and light at the same time, like a young girl wearing an old dress. Quirky. Sadly, as far as I can tell, Lempicka aren’t sold in stores in Austria anymore and online retailers only have a few leftovers of this particular perfume.

IMG_3876

Lee Stafford Poker Straight for Oily Roots Dry Shampoo: This is the white variant (I had to give away my brown colored one after I went blond, haha). I like this, it works well. The smell could be a bit less intense for me (since I prefer smelling of my chosen perfume and not of my hair products) but the scent itself is okay. I have already repurchased this.

IMG_3860

Louis Widmer 50+ Extra Sun Fluid: This is one of my favorite sun products. The protection factor is high, there is no alcohol in the formula and no perfume. It leaves a slight white cast on the skin, but not very bad. The texture is not mattifying, it left me with a glow. But personally, I like that. Mattifying products often make  my skin too dry. The texture is very runny. Biggest downside: only 100 ml of product and not very cheap. Haven’t repurchased so far, but I might because it’s really good. I also tried the SPF 30, but that one had alcohol in it and my skin reacted badly.

IMG_3863

List of ingredients.

And, that’s it. Quite a list for one month. 🙂

All Used Up June 2016

All Used Up June 2016

Better late than never, here is what I used up last month:

IMG_3825

First the Balea handcream in Fruity Harmony. This is the handcream that smells exactly like Escada Agua del Sol! I think this one was a limited edition. It was properly hydrating and felt good, the smell was a little strong.

IMG_3828

Ingredients of handcream.

IMG_3833

The Body Shop Vineyard Peach Shower Gel: I like this strong, totally obnoxious scent of fake peach candy. Sometimes it even smells like a real, ripe peach. The smell doesn’t really linger on my skin much, well maybe a few hours. It also hangs around in the bathroom. I’ve now used up all I have of this line. Might repurchase some day.

IMG_3849

Another one from The Body Shop: Camomille Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. It removes waterproof and water resistant makeup well. I was going to give this a so-so review, but honestly the remover I use now is much worse, so I miss this one already.

IMG_3853

And my last empties: a sample set of Calvin Klein Eternity Now, perfume and body lotion. I think this perfume smells really, really good (review). But boy, it does NOT last. Even layering the body lotion with the perfume does not make it last any longer, but it makes the smell stronger for the first ten minutes.

IMG_3856

List of ingredients for body lotion. It moisturizes only a little. This is really not the sort of body lotion you use for skin care, it’s the thing you se for the scent only. Did I mention it smells really good, but gets too subtle way too fast? Pity.

All Used Up May 2016

All Used Up May 2016

My list of last month’s empties is very short, only two items:

IMG_3758

  1. Declare Hautberuhigungscreme lipidreich: a very rich skin cream, soothing, but extremely thick. Good as a last step in skin care for very cold weather to seal the moisture in. Would not advise using for skin with rosacea. It got a little hot underneath that cream. But otherwise very good.

IMG_3760

Ingredients for the skin cream.

IMG_3757

2. The Body Shop Vineyard Peach Body Butter: The only other item I used up, a big pot of body butter. I bought it for the obnoxious scent, which I love. It oscillates between overly ripe peach and peach candy. Terrible. XD However, the body butter is way too rich for my taste. I keep forgetting that and buying body butter instad of lotion. The butter is so rich it feels suffocating on skin. I can only use it in cool weather and I still feel like it makes me sweat. It does make the skin soft and smooth, though.

Finally I am making way in my stash of body products, yay. I am now allowed to buy body lotion again!!! Not shower gel though. I’ve still got way too much shower gel.

Current Skin Care Routine

Current Skin Care Routine

Over the last year I have rehauled my skin care routine. I was going to say “simplified”, but looking at the amount of products in my picture, maybe not. XD I have decided to go as gentle as possible, no harsh washing gels, less alcohol and irritating fragrance, more chemical peeling.

Skin 1

Cleansing

This means I cut out all the mechanical peelings and washing gels. Even the supposedly gentle one I used still irritated my skin (you can tell by how right after washing the skin will be tight and dry and about half an hour to an hour later the skin is oilier than before washing). So that left my cleansing milk Toleriane from La Roche Posay (I use this on makeup free skin only, even if it says it can remove makeup, it’s not very good at it); the Micellar Cleanser from Garnier; and for waterproof makeup the dual phase Camomille cleanser from the Body Shop. That one is okay, but I think when it’s used up I’ll go for another brand.

Skin 2

Moisture

Next step after cleansing is to add moisture back. I do not use any toner at the moment. I ran out (years ago, in fact) and realized I didn’t miss it. So I go right to moisture. You probably heard of Korean skin care by now, and how they layer like half a million products over each other. When I read about that I was like ‘that’s too much work’ but these days I do often use quite a few layers as well. In the midle of the pic you see MAC Fix+. You often see it mentioned that people spray this on after makeup, and the description on the bottle says it can be used before and after makeup. A look at the ingredients list tells me it’s made of water and some antioxidants – and nothing else. So while you can apply as last layer, the water will simply evaporate and might leave you drier than before. But when used as first layer and then locked in with heavier products, the moisture stays on the skin and the antioxidants can do their work. So when I use Fix+, I do it immediately on clean skin.

Then I start layering eye cream and lip balm (not pictured). My current eye cream is a cheap one from Balea, it has no bad ingredients (as far as I could tell) and a few antioxidants.

The moisturizer is Clinique Moisture Surge. It’s a light gel that, well it does exactly what the name promises. I will always use this when my skin is visibly dry, but at the moment I don’t use it every day. I use different serums (not pictured) and often don’t put anything on top of those. If I wanted to use both a serum and Moisture Surge I will layer the thicker texture over the lighter one.

Skin 4

Sun Care

The morning routine usually goes like this: cleansing, Fix+ and Sun care on top. When I wear makeup it’s usually MAC CC Cream with SPF 30. It’s the best option if I want to put something on top. My other options are a mattifying sun cream (not pictured) which leaves my skin super dry if I use it more than two days in a row and the two bottles on here: La Roche Posay Rosaliac UV Legere, a great cream with lots of Niacinamide (a form of Vitamin B3 and one of the best skin care ingredients ever) and SPF 15. The cream is slightly green tinted, but applied I don’t really see any difference. However, this one isn’t really good for wearing underneath makeup, as it has a greasy finish. No amount of powder helps here. So sadly despite this being really good for my skin I only wear it when I go makeup-less.

And the last bottle is my all over sun care: Louis Widmer 50+ Extra Sun Fluid. I wanted one without any alcohol or fragrance and there were not too many offerings. This one can be used for the body and face, however when I wear it with makeup I get a similarly shiny finish as with the Rosaliac.

Skin 3

Extras

These are the extra helpers. I don’t use them daily. The small grey bottle is the Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Mask. This is a colorless mask that you can either take off again or wear over night. It gives the skin extra moisture. As this is a smaller size I don’t have a list of the ingredients but I hope they’re not too bad. I use this only when my skin is flaky and often only on the dry parts of my face.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+: Chemical Peeling with Salicylic Acid and Capryloyl Salicylic Acid. I have found that for me it works best used every other day. It makes pores appear smaller (by getting the gunk out) and helps with spots.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast: For any kind of emergency, be it extremely dry and reddenend skin or huge spots or whatever else might happen.

And last is Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions mask, a white clay mask with Salicylic Acid. I use this whenever I feel like it, not too often.

So far the regime works out very well for me. In the future I want to be even more diligent about suncscreen and I’d like to add retinol at some point.

Do you have any tips? What are your go-to ingredients?

All Used Up MAy 2015

All Used Up MAy 2015

Another month over, and time for another round of empties:

IMG_2789

I used up my sample of Jil Sander Simply. I already reviewed it here.  I liked it, but I don’t feel the need for a big bottle atm.

IMG_2787

The Body Shop Honeymania Shower Gel: Lovely smell, a bit like honey and a lot like wild flowers. A little bit of clover, maybe. I am on a total shower gel buying ban, because I have way too many bottles standing around, but generally I would repurchase this. I’m not sure if the scent is stll around, though.

IMG_2782

Douglas nails hands feet everyday’s darling moisturizing hand balm: a good hand cream, but ultimately nothing special. Flowery scent that isn’t too overpowering.

DSC00546

MAC Mineralize Foundation Compact: by now there are several Mineralize Foundations available. I fell for the compact version (it’s creamy, not dry) and used it so much that it’s already empty. 😦

DSC00547

The sad rest. The compact comes with a sponge. That sponge is still untouched, because I only applied this with a brush. The coverage can be adjusted depending on which brush is used. For a natural, medium coverage I used MAC 130, for a stronger coverage the Shiseido foundation brush or my newest brush, the Zoeva Silk Finish.

On the one hand I am sad it lasted only about a year, on the other hand it’s a good idea to use it up fast, because such a cream is more exposed than a bottle and could get bad faster. The cream contains a bit of alcohol, enbough that I could smell it at first. It seemed to evaporate over time. It’s not that I got used to it, because the same week I used this one up, I opened the next one and that one had the alcohol smell again. So if you’re sensitive to alcohol, this is not the foundation for you, but like I said, it evaporates, so I’m not too concerned about it.

Already repuchased, this is the foundation that works best for me. Long lasting, good coverage, does not emphasize dry parts. It’s not mattifying; f you’re looking for something for oily skin, check out the liquid versions.

IMG_2754

Ebelin nail polish remover pads acetone free: these were merely okay. I liked the older ones better, but they changed the formula.

IMG_2753

Lis of ingredients. For now no repurchase.

IMG_2757

Marionnaud Cleansing Micellar Water: I bought this travel size back when I was looking for a cheaper version of the Lancome Micellar Cleanser. I have since found it in the Garnier one. It took me forever to use up this Marionnaud one, because I found it awful. It has a nasty alcoholic smell, it feels nasty and drying on skin and it removed makeup only so-so. I kept it for emergencies and as you can see, there were enough of them to make it finally empty. Would not buy again.

IMG_2779

Last one for this month: Biotherm Lait de Douche. It’s the shower milk with that lovely soft citrus smell of theirs. That smell must be popular not only with me, since they have released a matching perfume spray this year. Apart from the smell, the milk also feels lovely on the skin.

IMG_2780

Back view with list of ingredients. Click the pic to enlarge. It contains salicylic acid, which explains the smooth feeling afterwards? Maybe? Or maybe the dose is too small and it’s only anti-inflammatory, which is also great.

Like I said I’m on a shower gel no buy, but I wouldn’t say no to getting this one as a gift. 😉

These were my empties of the last month, quite good, eh? Empties always make me feel so accomplished! 😀

All Used Up November 2014

All Used Up November 2014

Hello and welcome to the last used up entry I’ll write in 2014.

IMG_2442

First item is this sample of Armani‘s EdP. What does it smell like? It smells like SUGARSUGARSUGAR. You know, not just sugar; it smells like you got out of the shower and rolled yourself in sprinkling sugar. And that’s it. It’s comepletely one note to me, maybe a little hint of marzipan. There is no darkness, nothing that pulls it down and makes it heavy. Only high top screeching sugar.

At first I did not like it (me and every gourmand ever) but the longer I wore it, the more it grew on me. And then I was craving it. I was sorry to see the sample go. On the other hand I would not want a full bottle. It’d be too much. But for everyone who wants something sweet smelling, without anything that makes it sickeningly rich, this is your perfume. Longevity: lasts all day on me, and longer on clothes.

IMG_2366

Wella enrich volumising shampoo: The longer I used this, the worse my hair got. Harder to brush, harder to wash, too, and it got greasy faster. Yes, it did give volume, but other shampoos do that too. And it felt like it was only volumising at the top, while everything else fell down and stuck together. I don’t know if there was silicone in it, from the way my hair reacted, probably.

Marbert Daily Care eye cream: Easy to apply moisturizing care. This is a completely no frills eye cream, no anti aging care or anything of the sort. It promises nothing but daily moisture and that it gives.

IMG_2386

Catrice Mattifying oil control paper: used especially in the summer to soak up excess sebum.

IMG_2387

And then suddenly it was gone. I have already repurchased it. It now comes in a lilac casing that is not see through and is simply called “all matt” but everything else is the same.

IMG_2423

BM Beauty Beautiful Lashes: came in a beauty box many moons ago. The bottom sticker says “Lash Thickening M001 Black”. Well if there’s one thing this mascara is not, then it’s lash thickening. In fact, before I used this mascara I never understood people who’d use five or more coats of mascara. Well, now I do. This mascara is so subtle, you barely notice it before coat 3. This mascara is neither thickening nor lengthening. What is does do is give nice fluttery, separated lashes without any clumping. Honestly I really liked the subtle effect. However, this mascara is a total vanishing wonder. I don’t know how, because it absolutely does not smear, but somehow after a few hours, there would be a lot less mascara on my lashes. Despite all this it stayed creamy until the end, so it wasn’t that it was dried up either. I don’t know, this is a weird thing and I wouldn’t buy it.

IMG_2451

The Body Shop Honeymania Body Butter: I could only use it now in the cold weather, it’d be too thick otherwise. But now it worked very well, especially on the feet. They were so soft the next day when I put a good helping on before bed. I know it’s supposed to smell like honey but I mostly smell flowers. No honey I know smells like that. But I found it lovely anyway. I still have full sizes of the lip cream and shower gel, so I don’t have to say good bye to this LE scent yet. 🙂

And these were my empties of November. I can’t believe the year is almost over. I guess it’s time for the “looking back” posts.

Fall Favorites

Fall Favorites

I was so eager for summer that I did my summer favorites post in spring. I meant to do the fall favorites at the beginning of september, but time flies. I was so eager for summer this year and then summer turned out to be two weeks of warmth and a whole lot of rain for the rest of the time. 😦 It feels like we’ve already had autumn since August. Maybe that’s why I am so very into the current Fall Collections…

Anyway here are my favorites for the season, not these products in particular, but the type they represent:

IMG_2262

On top, an older YSL lipstick (you can tell by how the logo is divided), a blush by s-he, a Givenchy eye shadow, perfume by Narciso Rodriguez, a Maybelline lip pencil, a lip balm by Rodial, the body shop bronzer and Essie nail polish.

IMG_2256

With the products open.

I put a lip balm in the selection because right when the temperatures sink I suddenly need a lot more balm for my lips. Rodial is what I’m currently using because it came in a beauty box, but any brand will do.

For nail polish I chose brown because almost every brand put brown in their fall collections. It’s this year’s trend color. I chose Essie Partner in Crime, but if you’ve seen my haul post you’ll know that by now I also own OPI How Great is your Dane? Brown nail polish is perfect because it’s warm and cozy and not too loud. Make sure it doesn’t clash with your skin tone before buying, though.

For perfume I chose Narciso Rodriguez for her EdT (pink packaging, black bottle), mostly because I was thinking of a day with crisp cold air, colored laves, fog at first but then the sun comes out. For really terrible weather I’d prefer something sweeter. for her is a clean chypre with lots of musk. To me it smells very buisness-like. I’m also cheating a little because for her is an all year round scent to me. I just felt like including it here.

I put the body shop bronzer in because it helps transition from summer bronze to no bronze. I have the lightest color 01 of four, but all of them are on the pale side of bronzer. If you can never find a good bronzer because you are so pale, do take a look at these. Those who are darker can probably use them all over. I am NC 15 in MAC and this bronzer barely shows up on me, so I mostly use it for contouring. Should I ever repurchase I’d take a darker shade.

For lips I chose my beloved YSL 42 Rose Lyrique and as alternative the new Maybelline Color Drama pencil in 310 Berry Much. (Review upcoming) I don’t stick to berry tones only, but I think they’re quite trendy this season. I mostly coordinate makeup with my clothes, so when it’s warm there’ll be a lot of coral and when it’s cold a lot more plum. I don’t even choose my clothes that way, it’s simply what’s being sold…

For eyes I put in the Givenchy eye shadow le prisme mono in 12 Casual Khaki. This is a stand in for all my bronzey-khaki items. I think the color goes well with plum and I love the way it looks. Givenchy’s le prisme mono are interesting eyeshadows because while it’s a single color, the quadrants differ in level of shimmer. There’s a matte part, two different shimmers and a glittery part. I think that’s pretty cool because you can reach for whatever suits you best and you can even make a whole look out of this alone. However I must admit I cannot tell the shimmery ones apart. Only the matte and the glittery are really distinctive to me. Usually I sweep all of them together and use the matte on its own for lining my lower lashes.

And last but not least, a powder blush by s-he. (That’s a cheap brand available at DM.) This is technically also cheating because it’s certainly a year-round item but I chose it because the color is so universal, it goes with everything. You can see I made a visible dent in the pan. The color is a dusty rose pink without shimmer. The picture pulls a little blue, it’s more neutral than that. Universally flattering, goes with everything. If you have only one blush, it should be like this. (I have a lot more blushes but I keep coming back to this one.)

These are my favorites for fall.

Thank you for reading. 🙂 What are your picks for the season?

Little Drugstore & Body Shop Haul

Little Drugstore & Body Shop Haul

I needed a few things and afterwards I accidentally also Body Shop. 😉

IMG_2106

I picked up the Garnier Micellar Cleanser because my current bottle is about to run out (review with next used up post), waxing sheets from Balea and hair conditioner also from Balea. At the body shop I picked up a dry oil, the Cocoa Butter beautifying oil. The beautifying oil is available in most of their scents; I had a really hard time choosing. Then, because it was on sale, I also took the vineyard peach shower gel, because VINEYARD PEACH!!!

On a different topic, I’m so stoked for the world cup finale today! 😀

Not used up

Not used up

I did not have any empties in April, but I did spring cleaning, so let me show you products I used, but then chucked away half full.

IMG_1865

alverde Blond Conditioner Hopfenblüte Honig: I liked this conditioner, it made hair super soft and easy to brush. But I used it only occassionally (would make hair limp if used too often) and I’ve had it forever and a day and it smelled funky when I found it in the back of the cabinet. So it had to go, but it was not a bad product at all.

Kanebo Sensai Prime Solution: This was supposed to be an additional step in moisturizing, used before any other products to make them work better. I had suspicions it broke me out. It probably didn’t, but it didn’t have any positive effects either. Usually I would let it lie for a few months and then try again. However, the product is impossible to get out. This thing has no pump, and it’s made from several layers of hard plastic, making it impossible to squeeze even a tiny bit. If it was liquid enough to come out on its own, that would be okay. But it was such a hassle getting even the slightest bit of product out, that I decided to give up.

IMG_1502

bebe more Fresh Eyes & Face make up remover: it does remove eye make up very well and did not burn inside of my eye. However, it burned on my skin and made it very red. The next day, my skin would be very dry and peel off. This thing is supposed to be for sensitive skin. I beg to differ. I stopped using and chucked it away because I was afraid it would ruin my skin. It took me two weeks of using to come to this decision. I was very determined to like it, and it does remove make up well. But no, wasn’t worth it.

007

bebe more brighten up: possibly the worst skin cream I have used, ever. It gives pretty much no moisture at all. It is also highly reflective and not in the good way. It makes you look oily even if your skin is dry. So in my eyes, this makes it unsuitable for any skin type.

010

The Body Shop 100% natural lip roll on: Tastes sweet. Does not do anything else at all. Gives no moisture or protection. My lips cracked a lot and so I threw it out.

IMG_1866

alverde liquid rouge: started to smell funky. That’s always a chance with liquid makeup, sadly.

Both alverde products were long past their ‘best before’ dates.

The only reason the great majority of Glossybox hair stuff isn’t on there is that I didn’t even open them. I only list things I really tried to use up but couldn’t. By the way, I have unsubscribed from Glossybox for now. I have a backlog to go through and their quality isn’t what it used to be. I might get weak with the one time boxes, though.

The Body Shop Haul

The Body Shop Haul

Today many shops offered 20% off and the Body Shop added a free full size shower gel for purchases over a certain amount. Cue haul:

IMG_1755

I got the vineyard peach body butter and body mist, the bronzing powder and the pink grapefruit shower gel. In the back you can see a sample of the Vitamin E cream. I also got a sample of the almond hand butter. You could choose a free shower gel out of a range, sadly vineyard peach wasn’t included, but pink grapefruit is a nice smell, too. It’s very fresh. Vineyard Peach on the other hand is a maddening smell. It smells like someone had just eaten a ripe peach and left only the stone and you smell it and smell it but you can’t eat it! The body mist is a little less extreme and fresher than the body butter.

IMG_1757

From their four bronzing powders I chose the lightest shade, 01 light matte. I meant to take a darker one, but they seemed to pull orange on me and this one didn’t.

I’m sorry, this picture pulls way too pink, you can see it in the background (compared to the pic above).

IMG_1759

Swatch. I got this to replace my s-he powder duo and I think it’ll work very well.

IMG_1755

Well, spring & summer can come. I can’t wait to annoy people with my “just eaten a peach” smell. 😉

All Used Up February

All Used Up February

February is a short month and so is my list of empties:

IMG_1603

The Body Shop Hemp Intensive Hand Butter: The Absinth Butter was not strong enough for winter, so I switched to the strongest butter they offer. The hemp butter has a strong scent. I could live with it, but I would not suggest buying this without smelling first. It takes a while to sink into the skin; but I am not sure if it sinks in at all or forms a film. When I applied this and then washed some fruit hours later, I always had the feeling the cream rubbed off onto the fruit.

IMG_1604

Biotherm Blue Therapy Serum-in-oil Night: This comes out as a clear, yellow/orange gel. The smell is more fruity and less cucumber (like other Biotherm products). It is supposed to provide overnight recovery to your skin. I think they want you to buy both this and the regular Blue Therapy serum and use that in the morning and this one at evenings. So  I used this every night and a different cream in the morning (the Blue Therapy cream, even, until I ran out). I think it does okay with dry skin, but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea with skin that is prone to clogging. Of course, the clogged pores at my chin might have been from something else.

Overall I’d say skip this and use the regular Blue Therapy serum twice a day instead. If you look for something to plump up your skin overnight, the Biotherm Aquasource nuit cream is your friend.

IMG_1606

Catrice Infinite Matt Make Up: This was a surprise use-up. From the outside it looks as if there was still a bit left, but when I unscrewed the pump, I found that no, there’s barely anything. It’s only residue here at the side. D: This particular foundation has been discontinued. Catrice have another matt one now, but the colors are different and the formulation too. I liked the old one, it worked well with primer and powder. But I’m not willing to take my chances with the new one, so I am in the market for a new foundation. (Not easy, because few ranges are pale enough for me and Bobbi Brown, who does offer my perfect color match, is out of the run because the foundations contain lavender oil! I think Maybelline Fit me might make the run, as they also have a good color match for me.)

And these were my only empties for the last month. See you! 🙂

All used up in November

All used up in November

As expected I did not have any empties in october. Here are my empties of the month november:

IMG_1311

The Body Shop Absinthe Hand Butter: This has been a repurchase. I like that the scent is light, barely noticable. It’s good for the warmer days, but in winter I need something stronger. (100 ml)

IMG_1302

Clarins Age-Control Hand Lotion with SPF 15: Another great product, sadly pretty expensive for only 75 ml. The scent is also barely noticable, a huge plus imho. However it left the hand slightly sticky – I almost didn’t notice it, but the black writing on the cap of my chapstick suddenly was on my fingers instead of where it belonged…

IMG_1304

Clinique high impact mascara: admittely this is a case of almost used up, but I think it’s going to be a matter of days, so. (Finally I am making way with my decorative products.) The high impact mascara has a huge brush that makes it hard to get to the roots of the lashes without also making a huge mess. Apart from that, it was a pretty good mascara, adding volume and length. This has been a repurchase but I probably won’t buy it again. Not after I met Benefit’s They’re real.

IMG_1225

Balea pH neutral Waschlotion: This is a soap-free cleanser which can be used for pretty much all over, face, body, hands. It is very gentle. I would have preferred the packaging to be see through – when I ran out it was a surprise.

IMG_1246

And for last: biotherm Aquasource deep serum

This has been very good to my pores, they were not clogged and smaller. The perfect serum would be a combination of this and Blue Therapy. Other than the pores I didn’t notice much change while using deep serum. I didn’t need any additional moisturizer though, which is useful.

Glossybox Österreich November 2013

Glossybox Österreich November 2013

Guess what I received today! Glossybox for the month of November!

IMG_1265

20% off the Body Shop, again a preview of what’s to come. (underneath: the useless Glossy mag)

IMG_1263

First box peek.

IMG_1266

As extra goodie, Roses de Chloé. As the name suggests, a strong rose scent.

IMG_1267

Anny 6 in 1 Nail Polish 950. This is a base and top coat in one. Yes, this one was also in the Douglas box. I guess I’ll gift it to someone, because the polish is not bad at all. This is a mini size of 6 ml.

IMG_1268

This black hole here is Emite Makeup Micronized Eye Shadow in Dams. Full size.

IMG_1275

Swatch. It is coal black, no shimmer at all. Funny, but I only now realized I didn’t have a black eye shadow without shimmer. It’s a powder eye shadow, but with a super creamy and very fine texture. With this swatch there was no fall out at all. I think I’ll try this for eye liner.

IMG_1270

Gliss Kur Marrakesh Oil & Coconut Intensiv-Feuchtigkeits-Kur: Oh dear, here we have the obligatory cheap full size (200 ml) hair product with silicone. Bleh.

IMG_1274

Pic of the ingredients. It wouldn’t even be so bad – without the silicone!

IMG_1271

The Body Shop Cranberry Joy Shower Gel: It looks like winter and holidays! It smells like sweet plastic, but whatever, I’m going to use this in the gym. Small size of 60 ml.

IMG_1273

Vichy Liftactiv Anti-wrinkle and firming cream: Mini size of 15 ml. I usually like Vichy, so this is a win.

My overall feelings: What is it with all those hair products? They are usually full sizes of cheap products. If it were at least sample sizes of more expensive brands. Not amused.

My box highlights are the Vichy cream, because Vichy is usually good, and the Emite Eye Shadow. I liked their lash curler and this shadow looks to be of good quality, so I am excited to try it. It’s not Glossyboxes’ fault I already got the Anny polish and I think it’s a good idea to have a base and top coat in the box.

I think the box is okay, except for this annoying ongoing hair product trend. Even if I meant to use them, there would be too many.

Already I am looking forward to December’s box, because last year’s was great. I hope 2013 can live up to it.

Glossybox Österreich September 2013

Glossybox Österreich September 2013

Same old, same old. September’s Glossybox is under the theme of Sugar&Spice. I love both sugary and spicy things and was eagerly awaiting the box and its insides.

001

Here’s what I got in the box (no box shot this time):

002

Another 20% off for Bodyshop (and a teaser of what was in the box)

003

This Syoss ad comes with a code that lets you order a hair dye of choice for free.

There’s also a Glossybox mag and some more ads.

004

Here we see the sugar of the box: The Bodyshop Honeymania Body Butter. Smells deliciously of Honey. Yum.

005

The obligatory hair product is Osis+ Blow & Go Smooth. It’s a spray for smoothing down hair and claims to make blow dry time shorter. Does anybody else think this product has a dirty-sounding name? full size.

007

bebe more Brighten up moisturizer with SPF 10. I used to have bebe products as a teen, I loved the texture. normal bebe products are advertised towards teens, the new bebe more line targets an older demography. Looking forward to try. full size.

009

Be a bombshell cosmetics eye liner in onyx: sorry for the bad pic, too much black with too little light.

010

This is a felt tip liner with a thick tip. I burned out on felt tip liners, this is going to a friend. It’s full size (as eyeliners in Glossybox usually are).

014

Some squiggly lines on the back of my hand.

011

Last, but not least: the spice of the box: Aura by Swarovski. It’s a perfume with a distinct spicy note, but not heavy at all. A very elegant scent and it lasts very long on the skin.

Since they really did put a sugary and a spicy product in, I declare this month’s motto to be perfectly fulfilled.

Overall, it’s an okay box, but it doesn’t blow me away. I keep on getting hair sprays and it’s the fourth black liner I got from Glossybox (not even counting liners in other colors). On the other hand, all products are useful, so it’s not bad either.

Glossybox Österreich August 2013

Glossybox Österreich August 2013

Another month, another box! But before I dive into the new box I’d like to add to the last one which had the Emite eye lash curler in it: this is the best eyelash curler I ever had and I never want to use another again!

002

So what was in the newest box?

004

Firstly, 20% off on body shop.

005

10 € off at Nägele&Strubell

006

Glossybox magazine. I’ve never seen this before. I guess it’s identical to the German one? Anyway, it’s pretty boring.

There was also a Zalando 5 € voucher that I did not take a picture of.

On to the interesting things:

008

Anatomicals spray misty for me facial spritz. Did not have a facial spray yet, so it might be useful, but I’m a bit anxious about some of the ingredients.

007

It’s got lavender, witch hazel and peppermint in it (though all of those at the very end of the ingredients, so not very much of it). All of these are potentially irritating. I’ll try it on my arm and see what happens… witch hazel is a good ingredient btw, antibacterial and such, but I always find it too drying.

009

got2b Öl-la-la, a hair spray with argan oil? I’m not sure what to do with this one. (Argan oil is the very last ingredient in case you’re interested in that sort of thing)

010

the body shop 100% natural lip roll on in orange: yes, useful. My burt’s bees lip balm was about to run out. I never had a lip roll-on before, I hope it’s not too much of a mess.

011

The box highlight: Biotherm Aquasource deep serum. The blue therapy serum impressed me a lot, I wonder how this one compares.

013

Jelly Pong Pong 2in1 eyeliner & eyeshadow: I would have never bought such a 2 in 1 product on my own, but that’s what these boxes are for, right? I liked the jelly pong pong lipstick they sent in a box before very much, so I’ll give it a chance. The color I got is a dark forest green with barely visible shimmer.

014

Swatch: Two unblended lines and one blended line. Since the color is so dark I don’t think you can tell it’s not black on the eyes. It’s obviously most useful for a smokey eye. When I washed these lines off, they didn’t go off immediately. I didn’t need to wash several times, like I sometimes have to with very long lasting products, but it did last a little. I can’t say anything about wear time on the eyes yet.

Overall, it is a useful box in my opinion. Sure, I keep on accumulating hair styling products, since I don’t really use them and I’m not yet 100% sure about the facial mist, but I think it’s a good box. All products except the Biotherm one are full size by the way. My wish for future boxes would be less full sized products and a little more glamour, though.
